The design of this brooch was inspired by a scene from the Codex Fejérváry-Mayer, a ritual and divinatory almanac, and one of the rare pre-Hispanic manuscripts from Central Mexico to survive the Spanish Conquest. It represents Xochiquetzal (Quetzal Flower), a fertility deity and patron of lovers, weavers, and craftspeople.
