21st - 23rd Dynasty (1081-711 BCE)

After the reign of Ramses III, the power of Egyptian kings gradually declined and Egypt entered another period of political fragmentation. Many of the various competing political factions were rulers from Lybia who came from the east and settled in the Delta region. Without the strength of centralized kingship, no one ruler could afford to build monumental architecture in this period, but other arts like coffin decoration and metal-working flourished.
