Enhanced by new techniques that made it possible to create an ever—expanding range of textures and other effects, ordinary objects became interesting subjects suitable for netsuke. These miniature versions of tea ceremony utensils, children’s toys, and everyday household items emphasized texture and surface emulation, with some appearing almost identical to the materials they mimic.
