High Renaissance

High Renaissance
14 records
The relatively brief period known as the High Renaissance (c. 1485-1520) followed the Early Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, and Raphael are its key artists, but there are no sculptures or paintings by Michelangelo in the USA, and only one painting by da Vinci (National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC.) Art of the period elevates the achievements of the early Renaissance to a more heroic level. Figures have bold and often unrealistically strong musculature, faces often have a beauty unobtainable in reality, and compositions are perfect.
