Art and Life: Design Unity

Art and Life: Design Unity
4 records
The ideal of completely incorporating art and life was fundamental to Arts and Crafts beliefs. Fine and decorative arts were to be equally valued and all objects to be characterized by an overarching design. Buildings, their furnishings, and their settings were designed to form an environmental whole, known on the Continent as Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of art). The ultimate aspiration was to integrate art into every aspect of daily life; art should not be an isolated, rarefied experience.
