In the second half of the sixteenth century the addition of bright red and green to the palette of Iznik ceramics expanded the creative possibilities of the style, and painters became more adventurous...
In the second half of the sixteenth century the addition of bright red and green to the palette of Iznik ceramics expanded the creative possibilities of the style, and painters became more adventurous in their compositions. The painter of this handsome vessel experimented with the confines of the round space, allowing the flower stem on the left side to grow up and around the edge of the plate’s interior to create a lively swirling motion.
