Maryam Zandi’s cool eye for choosing her subjects is particularly evident in this image of a man ecstatically holding a newspaper with the headline, "The Shah Left." There is something both charming and sad in this scene of unrestrained happiness, for, within a few months, many of the newspapers proclaiming the glad tidings of the shah’s departure would be shuttered by the new leadership.
