California School of Art instructor La Gardo Tackett challenged his students to modernize traditional terra-cotta planters. The resulting forms became the initial collection offered by Architectural Pottery, a small firm whose products, designed to be used indoors and out, became emblematic of California living. Part of Tackett’s later collection, this planter was offered with a walnut stand that the company claimed would “truly unify the plant containers with the softened, elegant carpeted living-dining entry room décor.”
