Collectors Marjorie and Leonard Vernon had a special affinity for this photograph by Hans Kühn. Maggi Weston, proprietor of the Weston Gallery, recalled the time she first showed the couple this image: "I wasn’t used to people in Los Angeles liking 19th century work, but I took some work with me and called Len when I arrived. I took a Heinrich Kühn, and Marjorie just loved it, it was her favorite. She said, "Oh, that looks like me as a young girl!"
