About this artist

Very little is known about Boûa Hessová. She studied with Rudolph Vacha (1860-1939) and Alois Kalvoda (b. 1875) at the art academy in Prague. After living in Paris for some time, she immigrated to the United States in 1913. Working in Chicago, she painted murals in churches and was also employed by the department stores Marshall Field and Ingstrup-Buhrke, Inc. She painted portraits and landscapes after moving to Los Angeles in 1928. In the early 1930s she briefly used the name Beatrice Hess.
